COVID TESTING INFORMATION

As a service to the community, Xpress Pediatrics offers Covid-19 testing for all ages.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Rapid tests for Covid screening are available.
PCR tests for Covid screening are available.
Walk-ins are welcome. However, we encourage you to schedule an appointment to avoid long wait times. You can schedule an appointment online at xpresspediatrics.com or by calling us at 240-616-1616. Please understand that due to high call volumes, we may not get to every call.

TYPES OF TESTS AVAILABLE

● Rapid Viral Antigen Tests: This test is done with nasal swab and processed in-house.
Results are available within 20-30 minutes of specimen collection. The sensitivity of this test is 87.5%. Rapid tests are most accurate in patients experiencing symptoms of Covid-19.

● Molecular Tests (also called PCR tests, viral RNA tests, nucleic acid tests):
This is the “gold standard” test to detect covid-19. The test is done with a nasal swab and is processed through an outside lab. Results are typically available within 24-48 hours of specimen collection. The false positive rate for this test is very low.
Please note that PCR tests are sent to an outside lab for processing. While we work closely with the lab to try to get your results within 24-48 hours, we cannot guarantee results within a specific timeframe. Xpress Pediatrics takes no responsibility for delays in result reporting, lost specimens, etc. Please take this into consideration when scheduling a test.

● Antibody Test: This test is a blood test that can tell you if you have had a past Covid-19 infection. This test is not used to diagnose Covid-19. Results are available within 20-30 minutes of specimen collection.
